Time 4 Chocolate Orange Protein Bites

Ingredients

To make this Chocolate Orange Protein Bites recipe, you will need:


1 Large, soft, ripe avocado, mashed
1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
1 Large egg
100g Time 4 Whey Protein Professional Jaffa Cake Flavour
20g Organic or good quality unsweetened cocoa powder
55g Chickpea (gram) flour
1/2 Teaspoon baking powder
Around 25g good quality dark chocolate, grated

Method

Mash and beat the avocado with the vanilla and the egg.


Sieve dry ingredients into a bowl and mix in the beaten ingredients.
Add the grated chocolate and mix in carefully.


If you prefer, to save on elbow grease, place the avocado, vanilla and egg in a food processor and whizz. Add the sifted dry ingredients and whizz on low - whizzing like this will ensure even distribution. Do not over-whizz though because if you do, the protein powder may make the mixture quite stiff. Then add the grated chocolate and whizz very slightly on low to mix it in.


Line one or two baking sheets with greaseproof paper.


Place heaped teaspoons or desert spoons (depending on whether you want small or slightly larger bakes - I used teaspoons and made 16 bites) onto the tray(s), spaced apart ready for slight bake expansion.

Bake at 180 °C for 10-12 minutes, fan oven (no need to preheat because the fan distributes the heat nicely) or 160 °C for 10-12 minutes in a preheated conventional oven.


Leave to cool on the tray(s) for a couple of minutes before using a palette knife to remove onto a wire rack to cool fully.


This produces a firm, very chocolatey bake that is more towards dry than moist, and you can try using slightly more or less protein powder and adding slightly more grated chocolate if you prefer, or fetch them out of the oven after 10 minutes for them to be slightly softer.
The flavours all come through without any added sugar drowning them.
