Raw Cacao Powder

The Cacao tree is native to tropical regions in Central and South America, although 70% of cacao is now grown in West Africa. Cacao plants have two edible parts: the seeds (also called beans) and the fruit. It is from the seeds that Cocoa, Cocoa Butter, and chocolate are made. Raw Cacao is made by cold-pressing un-roasted Cacao Beans. The process keeps the living enzymes in the Cacao and removes the fat. Cocoa powder, on the other hand, is Raw Cacao that has been roasted at high temperatures, which reduces the enzyme content and lowers the overall nutritional value. Cacao contains tryptophan, which is an Amino Acid the body uses to make serotonin, a brain chemical that helps us to relax. It also contains high levels of magnesium and zinc, which play an important role in sleep, in addition to iron, calcium, beta-carotene and omega 6 fatty acids.
